Ticket Brokers versus Ticket Scalpers
Ticket Brokers are aftermarket businesses which sell premium tickets for sports, concerts and other special events often above the original face value. For example, A pair of $200 tickets to a U2 or Rolling Stones concert could sell for over $1000 each from a broker. Supply and demand for tickets is a major factor in the price of a ticket to see a popular show. Some of these shows don't come around too often (like U2 or Madonna) and when they do have concerts, they are always sold out. The venue and artist is also a factor - tickets to see Hootie and the Blowfish or Huey Lewis and the News will not sell as much as much as the tickets to see U2, the Rolling Stones, or Prince.
The most respectable brokers have websites where you browse ticket selections for a variety of events. They have an enormous selection of agents, tickets, and venues to offer their customers. Many of their selections are more affordable than other Ticket Brokers which they compete. Online ticket brokers have partnerships with several agents that sell tickets and this gives them an advantage because of the large inventory they have access to. It gives the concert going, sports spectator, and theatre patrons a fair and reasonable price for tickets that are in high demand or are just hard to get because they are always sold out.
